THE MARK BERRY SCHOLARSHIP FOR YOUNG ARTISTS

2025 application deadline has passed. Winners announced April 15.

The Mark Berry Scholarship for Young Artists was established in 2022 and is named after Bach Ascending's founding president who passed away in February 2023 after a long illness.

The scholarship is offered to students in grades 8-11 who are residents of Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, and Liberty counties. If awarded a scholarship, the proceeds go directly toward the tuition of a summer academy, camp, or institute. Complete details can be found in the application. Applicants will need a Google account or request a printable form.

Please note: performing music by J. S. Bach is not a requirement for eligibility.

2025 Mark Berry Scholarship Winners!

 Hyunjun Yuk, Piano

Attending Reinhardt Piano Festival
Teacher: Sara Leote

From Hyunjun's essay:
"[T]his [experience] would make a difference for my future because it could contribute greatly to me doing piano when I get to college. Not only that, but most importantly, it would help me enjoy playing the piano at a deeper level. This reason is more personal, but it is very important because for me, at the end, playing the piano is something that I would do in my free time, whenever I’m stressed, or whenever I feel like playing it for enjoyment. Playing the piano helps me forget all the hardships in my life and move away from them."

 Ethan Chen, Clarinet
Attending the University of Georgia Summer Music Institute.

Teacher: Dr. Kristen Spiron Sanders

From Ethan's essay:
"Working with professional musicians, university professors, and talented peers in Georgia would push me to refine my skills and become a more mature clarinetist and musician. Additionally, I look forward to reconnecting with friends I met at All-State during this program. It will also be my first experience of living away from my parents
and independently for an extended period, helping me develop essential life skills."

 Annette Park, Viola
Attending Interlochen Arts Camp

Teacher:  Kerri Sellman

From Annette's essay:
"I would use this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of attending Interlochen to expand my viola playing experience in solo and ensemble groups, meeting and collaborating with fellow string musicians who are as passionate about instrumental performance as I am. Furthermore, I anticipate being able to focus on improving my technique and musicality on the viola through the masterclasses, enriching lectures
